Though we consider ourselves to be the ultimate matchmakers here at HSAR, sometimes it takes awhile for a dog to find their "too good to be true" forever home.
This Valentine's Day fundraiser will help us cover the cost of our longer stay dogs and give us a special opportunity to raise awareness about them. As you may already know, our rescue is not funded through the county or state and simply relies on private contributions and grants. In a normal year we would be able to fall back on the income from our boarding wing but those funds have nearly vanished because of covid.
We are so glad that we are here to offer a kind and safe sanctuary for dogs who would have ran out of time at a county shelter. Some of our longer stays have issues to work through and our patient kennel techs are by their side each day to train and help them through their fear, energy, or habits. Our front office staff and volunteers go through each application and speak with possible adopters to make sure it's a good fit. I have truly never met a more dedicated staff and I feel lucky to be a part of an organization that cares every step of the way. It's common for our longer stay dogs to visit the vet while they are with us to check on their overall health. Jezabel is currently receiving daily rehab exercises for her hip dysplasia as well as going to underwater therapy sessions in Reno. No dog experiences a lack of care or love here. It's so special to see a dog transform during their stay with us and we know that the extra time and expenses are a critical part of the rehabilitation process so that they can go on to live happy, normal lives with people who love them.
Please help us raise these life saving funds as we attempt to make it through one of the most difficult times in HSAR's history. Want to make a difference year round? Consider turning your donation into a monthly gift!
